On July 6, 2023, COMSATS Joint Center for Industrial Biotechnology (CCIB) hosted a Workshop on Green Biomanufacturing of Future Food via online and offline, co-moderated by Prof. SUN Jibin, Deputy Director-General of Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIB, CAS) and Founding Director of CCIB, and Prof. SHI Ting, CCIB Coordinator of Joint R&D Group on Future Food. Ambassador Dr. M. Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director of COMSATS, delivered an opening speech on behalf of COMSATS. Nearly 50 scientists and scholars from COMSATS member states such as China, Pakistan and so on attended the workshop. Prof. ZHOU Jingwen from Jiangnan University, introduced the important role of synthetic biotechnology in the future food in his keynote presentation entitled “Future Food and Synthetic Biology”. He also prospected the great potential of future food in improving human being’s food security and living standard. Besides, Prof. ZHENG Yu from Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Prof. LIU Yingli from Beijing Technology and Business University, Prof. Hamid Mukhtar from Government College University (Pakistan), Prof. OLADIPO Iyabo Christianah from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (Nigeria) and Prof. SHI Ting from TIB introduced their latest research progress in core microorganisms and microbiome in traditional vinegar, biosynthesis of fibrinolytic enzyme, lactic acid bacteria in Nigerian fermented foods and palm wine, bio-manufacturing of future food boosted by in vitro synthetic biology, respectively. After the presentation, Prof. SHI Ting introduced the international cooperation plan of the Joint R&D Group on Future Food in the framework of CCIB. The workshop aims to promote the academic exchange and explore potential cooperation opportunity for joint R&D and technology demonstration on future food. |
