The Thousand Talents Program was launched by the Chinese Government in 2008. The aim of the program is to recruit talented people of the highest level from all over the world to further their careers in Chinese universities, institutes and corporations. The Chinese Government and relevant accepting organizations will offer full support to recruited individuals to help them establish their career in China either in the field of science and technology innovation or in the field of business development, based on a strong technical background.
The categories of the national Thousand Talents Program are:

1. Thousand Talents Program for Long-term Projects
The Thousand Talents Program for Long-term Projects seeks talented individuals who have obtained a doctoral degree overseas and are under 55 years old.
Individuals selected for the program should work in China at least nine months each year during three years and meet one of the following requirements:
a) Be a professor (or hold equivalent rank) at a famous foreign university or research institute.
b) Hold a senior position in a well-known international company or institution (for individuals in technology and management).
2. Thousand Talents Program for Young Scientists
Candidates should be in the field of natural science or engineering and should be under the age of 40. They should also meet the following qualifications:
a) Have a doctoral degree from a world-renowned overseas university and no less than three years of research experience along with demonstrated scientific capability, or should have a domestic Ph.D. with more than five years of overseas research experience.
b) Have a formal teaching or research position in a well-known overseas university, research institution or well-known R&D institution when applying.
c) Be able to work full-time after selection to the program.
3. Thousand Talents Program for Short-term Projects
a) Should be a leading talent or academic technology leader urgently needed in the field of science and technology, industrial development or curriculum development.
b) Should be able to spend no less than two months at TIB each year during a three-year appointment.
4. Thousand Talents Program for Foreign Experts
This program is open to non-Chinese scholars under the age of 65. Candidates should also:
a) Be able to spend at least nine months at TIB each year during a three-year appointment.
b) Be a professor (or have an equivalent rank) at a world-renowned research institution.
1. The successful candidates can enjoy the relevant treatment and allowance of this program, supported by the central government, CAS and institute.
2. The successful candidates can enjoy a highly competitive research start-up fund, as well as good working and research experimental conditions.
3. Furthermore, institute will also support in this program on other areas.
