On September 3, Prof. SUN Jibin, Deputy Director-General of Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), CAS on behalf of TIB was invited to give a presentation entitled “Green Biomanufacturing For Sustainable Development - TIB’s Vision and Action” at 2022 International Forum on South-South Cooperation and Trade in Services, which was jointly organized by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), the China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE) and the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) at China National Convention Center during 2022 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS).
Prof. SUN Jibin illustrated the concept of biomanufacturing and its support for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), taking the biomanufacturing of food, pharmaceutical chemicals and biodegradable materials as examples, introduced the recent scientific and technological achievements and industrialization progress on promoting to realize “industrialization of agriculture, greenization of industry and globalization of production” by building cell factory for bioeconomy. He also introduced the progress and operating mechanism of the COMSATS Joint Center for Industrial Biotechnology (CCIB), a South-South Cooperation Platform for Biomanufacturing co-built by TIB and COMSATS. Prof. SUN’s speech strengthened the understanding of the representatives on biomanufacturing and its role in serving sustainable development, played a positive role in the future S&T cooperation on biomanufacturing and the demonstration and promotion of applicable technological achievements.
CIFTIS is a comprehensive, state-level event with a global reach co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality. It is also a crucial platform for China to expand opening-up, deepen cooperation and pioneer innovation. With the theme of “Shaping a Global Greener Future Through South-South Technical Cooperation”, 2022 International Forum on South-South Cooperation and Trade in Services invited representatives from embassies in China of the developing countries, UN specialized agencies , Chinese government agencies, academia, think tanks, civil society organizations, and private sector to make in-depth exchange on the impact of technical cooperation on accelerating South-South and tripartite cooperation, and the patterns and pathways for promoting green development through technical cooperation.
