On March 24, the TIB-IB RWTH Biotechnology Joint Center (hereinafter referred to as the " Joint Center") held a seminar on promoting the technology transfer. Prof. Ulrich Schwaneberg, Director of the Joint Center, Director of the Institute of Biotechnology, RWTH Aachen University and Prof. ZHU Leilei of the Tianjin Institute of Industrial (TIB), Deputy Director of the Joint Center, co-chaired the seminar. Nearly 20 related people from RWTH Aachen University (RWTH), BIO Clustermanagement NRW GmbH (BIO.NRW), Tianjin Airport Economic Area administrative Committee, TIB and Tianjin Biotechnology Innovation and Development Co., LTD attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Prof. ZHU introduced the background of the seminar, the basic information of the Joint Center and its role in promoting the technology incubation and transfer in China and Europe. Prof. Schwaneberg introduced the project "Bio4MatPro", undertaken by RWTH and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Dr. Alan Mertens, Innovation Manager of RWTH Innovation GmbH, introduced the supporting mechanism and management services for innovative projects and start-ups via successful cases. Dr. Bernward Garthoff, CEO of BIO. NRW, introduced the various services provided by BIO. NRW in promoting the development of the biotechnology industry.

Prof. SUN Jibin, Deputy Director-General of the TIB, introduced the research areas, major scientific research progress and industrialization of the developed technologies of TIB, as well as related information of the National Center of Technology Innovation for Synthetic Biology (NC SynBio) in terms of technology innovation and industrial incubation and transformation. Dr. MENG Yu, General manager of Tianjin Biotechnology Innovation and Development Co., LTD introduced the professional services and supporting conditions provided by Bio-manufacturing Incubator named “BIOINN” which is operated by the company.

The participants discussed and exchanged ideas on promoting the biotechnology incubation and transfer in China and Europe. The meeting concluded to strengthen exchanges and information resource sharing with each other, give full play to the role of the NC SynBio, BIOINN and Bio. NRW as platforms for technology incubation and transformation, take the Joint Center as a bridge, establish a cooperation mechanism from technology to industry, and jointly promote the development of the bio-industry.
