Dr. Kassu Yilala Ashame, the Advisor to the Prime Minister and with a Ministerial position in Policy and Research Institute, as the head of the biological technology delegation from Ethiopia visited Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIB, CAS) on January 30. Prof. Jibin Sun, the Deputy Director-General, related staff from the Office of S&T Development Administration, Industry Liaison & Technology Transfer and theCoreFacility of TIB gave the delegates warm receptions.
Prof. Jibin Sun introduced TIB from such as background, mission, research area, organization scheme, research organizing model, the talent, core Facilities, major research progress and industrial collaboration of the Institute to the delegates. Subsequently，the delegation made detailed consultation from such as how to develop industrial biotechnology, innovate system and scheme and management model for a new Institute. Both sides expressed the hope to carry out bilateral cooperation if have chance in the future, to co-promote the research and industrialization development of biotechnology.
Besides Dr. Kassu Yilala Ashame, the delegates have: Endashaw Bekele Wordoffa , Senior Professor at Addis Ababa University, Member of the World Academy of Sciences, Director of the Human Genetic Diversity Project of the Ethiopia and Chair of the National Biotechnology Task Force of Ethiopia, Dr. Abrham Assefa Armidie, Scientific Director and Senior Scientist of Armauer Hansen Research Institute and Member of the World Academy of Sciences, Dr. Endale Gebre Kadisso, Director of Agricultural Biotechnology Research, Ato Belete Geda Torbi , Senior expert in the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Dr. Shemelis Admassu Emire, the Deputy Director General of Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical Industry Development Institute, Tewodros Bekele, the Deputy Director of Information System, Information Network Security Agency(INSA). Moreover，Mr. Afework Shimelis Legesse, the Minister Counselor from Ethiopia Embassy also attended the visit.
During the visit, the delegation visited the core facilities covering high-throughput screening, systems biotechnology, fermentation, and the laboratory of microbial metabolic engineering of TIB.
