On July 15^th 2009，Dr. Donald Gerson of Celltrion Inc.,Korea, began his one-week visit to Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences, at the invitation of Prof. Zhiyong Huang of TIB. Dr. Donald Gerson is now the head of the CMO Manufacturing Devision of Celltrion Inc. He has been serving as senior consultant of biotechnology sector of U.S., China, Korea et al., responsible for the establishment, construction and operation of bioproduction facilities. Dr. Donald Gerson has published more than 80 SCI papers on cell physiology, immunology, biochemistry engineering, vaccine R&D and bioproduct manufacturing.

During his visit, Dr. Donald Gerson listened carefully to the introduction of the overall design and plan of our fermentation pilot-plant and the selected pilot-apparatuses, and put forward invaluable opinions. Dr. Gerson visited the construction site, accompanied by Prof.Wenxia Jiang who is in charge of the construction of the fermentation pilot-plant. Prof. Jiang also introduced the objective, principle, scheme and deployment of the current fermentation pilot-plant in details. The discussion was verypleasant and illuminating. In the following days, Dr.Gerson will have a thorough discussion with Prof. Jiang on the techno-parameters of the main apparatuses of the planned fermentation pilot-plant. As a senior bioproduct expert, the valuable suggestions put forward by Dr. Gerson will play an importantrole in the further improvement of fermentation plant in TIB.
