TIB-IB RWTH Joint Center for Biotechnology Holds a Seminar on Promoting Technology Transfer

On March 24 , the TIB-IB RWTH Biotechnology Joint Center ( hereinafter referred to as the " Joint Center " ) held a seminar on promoting the technology transfer .Prof . Ulrich Schwaneberg , Director of the Joint Center , Director of the Institute of Biotechnology , RWTH Aachen University and Prof . ZHU Leilei of the Tianjin Institute of Industrial ( TIB ) , Deputy Director of the Joint Center .The basic information of the Joint Center and its role in promoting the technology incubation and transfer in China and Europe . Prof . Schwaneberg introduced the project " Bio4MatPro " .

TIB has a meeting with NSTDA

Under the coordination of the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), CAS together with CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Biotechnology (CoEBio) had an online meeting with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Thailand on 17 March, 2022.

TIB hosts the Second International Training Course on Industrial Synthetic Biotechnology

The Second International Training Course on Industrial Synthetic Biotechnology (ITC-ISB) was held online and offline from December 20 to 30, 2021 in Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Nearly eighty scientific and technological personnel in the field of biotechnology from seventeen developing countries along the "Belt and Road" such as Egypt, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Nigeria and Nepal participated in the training course. The training course also opened to the public via live broadcast and got nearly 11,000 views.

TIB Hosted the CCIB Workshop on 'Technical Innovation in Traditional Plant Medicine'

On October 13, 2021, Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIB-CAS) hosted the COMSATS Joint Center for Industrial Biotechnology (CCIB) Workshop on ‘Technical Innovation in Traditional Plant Medicine’ via online and offline. Prof. Sun Jibin, Deputy Director-General of TIB and Director of CCIB, and Dr. Akhtar Nazir, Executive Director of COMSATS and Federal Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan attended the meeting and made a speech. Nearly 100 scientists from more than ten COMSATS member states such as China, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Egypt, Jamaica and Ghana attended the workshop.

Chinese Scientists Report Starch Synthesis from CO2

Many plants turn glucose from photosynthesis into polymers that form insoluble starch granules ideal for long term energy storage in roots and seeds. Cao et al. developed a hybrid system where CO2 is reduced to methanol by an inorganic catalyst and then converted by enzymes first to three and six carbon sugar units and then to polymeric starch. This artificial starch anabolic pathway, or ASAP, relies on engineered recombinant enzymes from many different source organisms and can be tuned to produce amylose or amylopectin at excellent rates and efficiencies relative to other synthetic carbon fixation systems and, potentially, even to field crops.
