The WANG Qinhong team of Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIB, CAS) achieved research progress in natural xylose yeast.
Cooperating with the Jiangning team of CAS Institute of Microbiology, the Wang Qinhong team isolated strains which can be transformed into free cells or corncob hydrolyzate xylose of high purity. The strains possess independent intellectual property right.
Maltose Candida (Candida maltosa) is a micro-organism utilizing natural xylose with a capacity of accumulating ethanol up to 100g\L among the fermented bacteria strains reported. It has a strong endurance against molecules produced by cellulose hydrolysis.
The project was supported by Knowledge Innovation Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and National Program on Key Basic Research Project of China(973 Program). And the findings are published online in the journal PloS One.(http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0011752#authcontrib)
