The Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology began to recruit graduate students in 2003. It offers master’s degrees in two areas: biology, and chemical engineering and technology. It also offers full-time professional master’s degrees in bioengineering and chemical engineering. TIB collaborates with the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) and the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPE) to enroll Ph.D. students.

TIB persists in the policy of putting equal emphasis on education and scientific research. Its goal is to develop an “ESTI” graduate training center, with a focus on education, science, technology and industry and an emphasis on cultivating students’ overall quality, innovative ability and humanistic characteristics. TIB is also cooperating with Nankai University, Tianjin University, the Tianjin University of Science and Technology, and the China University of Science and Technology among others to expand the number of graduate students, establish an open-style graduate training base, strengthen international cooperation and exchange in graduate student education, and inspire doctoral students to make significant innovations.
