1. Utilizing the concepts and technologies of synthetic biology to conduct foundational innovation design of animal feed and human food, developing microbial protein sources and functional nutritional resource technologies for applications like single carbon feedstock and biomass utilization.
2. Based on human and animal nutritional metabolism and physiological functions, developing key technologies for biological synthesis and application of new microbial proteins, functional peptides, nucleotides, trace elements and other nutrients.
Xin Wu, born in 1979, member of CPC, Professor, Ph.D., Doctoral supervisor, researcher at National Synthetic Biology Innovation Center, Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIB, CAS), PI of Biological Synthesis of Nutritional Resources Research Group. He obtained a Ph.D. from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010, and successively served as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor at Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, CAS. He was a visiting scholar at French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) and Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands. Since 2021 he has been working as a Professor at TIB, CAS. He was selected into the “National High-level Personnel of Special Support Program”, “National Program for Support of Youth Scientific and Technological Innovation Leaders” and other programs.
His research focuses on microbial and nutritional resource development and their application in animal feed and food. He undertakes national key R&D projects, provincial and ministerial scientific and technological innovation projects. He has authorized 33 invention patents and published over 200 papers in journals like Bioresource Technology, Microbiome, Food & Function, Animal Nutrition, etc., with over 180 papers indexed in SCI. As the first three contributors, he has won 8 national, ministerial and provincial awards, including the National Natural Science Award Second Prize, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Science and Technology Advancement Award, the Chinese Agricultural Science and Technology Award, and the Provincial Invention Award First Prize. His main social positions include Council Member of Chinese Society of Animal Science, Secretary General of Trace Element and Food Chain Branch, etc.
