LIU Weidong, Ph.D., Professor and Doctoral Supervisor. He is currently the director of Structural Biology Platform Laboratory of Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was selected as a member of Youth Innovation Promotion Association of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has published more than 60 research papers in SCI journals such as Nature Communications, Angew Chem and ACS Catalysis. He presided over many key research and development projects, National Natural Science Foundation and other projects, and won the second prize of Natural Science in Tianjin Science and Technology Award. He mainly studies the structure and function of enzyme biocatalysts by using structural biology techniques such as X-ray crystallography, excavates enzyme catalysts with potential industrial application value from gene database, and carries out expression and purification, X-ray crystallography work on them to understand the mechanism and characteristics of related catalysts. On this basis, rational and semi-rational design can be used to improve the efficiency of enzymes, such as expanding substrate spectrum, improving enzyme activity and temperature resistance, so as to enhance their industrial application potential.
