Application and characteristics:

Compared to the MicroMax-007 high-frequency rotating anode generator, this instrument provides 2.5 times higher X-ray throughput, and with the same 70 μm focal spot size in micro-focus mode. When used with VariMax optics, the FR-X can offer the highest brightness available in a laboratory setting, enabling efficient and rapid diffraction data collection. It is ideal for collecting diffraction data from the broadest range of protein and small molecule crystal samples. For macromolecules, it can be used for protein crystal screening, SAD data collection, cryoprotectant optimization, and 3D structure determination and refinement through molecular replacement or de novo phasing. In small molecule studies, it can determine absolute configuration, collect data from small or weakly diffracting crystals, and perform variable-temperature XRD to obtain bond lengths, bond angles, crystal connectivity, and cell parameters, ultimately yielding atomic structure data.
