Investigator Weidong Liu, who is the director of Structural Biology Platform, Liu has been working on protein engineering for decades, using structure biology technique to solve the three-dimensional structure and illustrate the structure and function relationship of Industrial important enzymes. As one of the public service platforms of the Technology Innovation Center, the Structural Biology Platform carries out structural and functional research on key proteins, and develops technologies such as protein preparation, structural analysis and functional analysis. To meet the major needs of the industrial application of synthetic biotechnology, we should take mastering the key technology of protein research and developing the innovation guarantee system as the main line, build a perfect protein structure analysis and analysis technology system, serve the technical needs of the related fields of the synthetic biotechnology innovation center, and promote the development of industrial protein science protein expression, preparation, purification, structural biology research. Prof Liu Weidong has published over 40 research papers in SCI journals such as Nature Communications, Angew Chem, and ACS Catalysis, and presided over a number of key R&D projects, National Natural Science Foundation projects, etc.
Senior engineer Xu Han is mainly engaged in the research of structural biology, using structure biology technique to solve the three-dimensional structure and illustrate the structure and function relationship of Industrial important enzymes. Xu Han, mainly research on the structure and function of plastic degrading enzymes, providing full-process services for protein preparation and structural analysis. She has published more than 20 papers in journals including Nature Catalysis, Nature Communications, and ACS Catalysis, with 5 patents’ application. Xu Han has presided over 1 National Natural Science Foundation for Youth, 2 national key research and development sub-projects, 1 pilot project sub-task, and won the Second Prize in Natural Sciences of Tianjin Science and Technology Award.
Senior engineer Jian Gao administering the Protein Expression Module primarily focuses on the enzyme protein synthesis, function analysis, and performance enhancement of enzyme proteins with possible application value, as well as research on the relationship between structure and function and application transformation. The structure and function of significant commercial enzymes are the primary areas of scientific interest. Taking responsibility for the high-throughput protein expression screening services in the lab of the structural biology platform. With over a decade of experience, she has offered several scientific research organizations full-process services for protein preparation, structural analysis, and performance enhancement. In addition to filing nine patent applications, she has about 20 publications published in journals including ACS Catalysis and Angew Chemistry. Hosted one National Natural Science Foundation for Young Scholars, and two national key research and development subprojects. Participated in more than ten other national and Tianjin significant projects.
Senior Engineer Jie Zhang is primarily responsible for managing large instruments and providing technical services at the Structural Biology Platform of the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. This includes equipment such as single crystal X-ray diffractometers, cryo-electron microscopy sample preparation systems, circular dichroism spectrometers, protein stability analyzers, and dynamic light scattering instruments. I have experience in protein expression, purification, crystallization condition screening, data collection, phase determination, and rational engineering of enzymes. During my work, I have characterized and modified several industrial enzymes and membrane proteins, solving the crystal structures of dozens of industrial enzymes, which laid a foundation for their industrial applications. I have co-authored dozens of articles, with relevant results published in journals such as Science, PNAS, Nature Chemistry, Nature Communications, Biosensors and Bioelectronics, and ACS Catalysis.
Senior Engineer Hongli Wei is responsible for the management and service of the protein preparation module of the structural biology platform. She has been engaged in protein expression and purification, protein structure analysis, enzyme modification, etc. for more than ten years. Hongli Wei has rich experience in establishment of protein purification process, high-throughput protein preparation, and protein structure analysis. She has established a high-throughput purification system and provided full-process services of protein preparation and protein structural analysis for multiple institute and research groups, achieving the preparation of hundreds of proteins and the analysis of nearly 40 protein structures, and participated in publication of many SCI papers in journals such as Acs Catalysis and Green Chemistry, with an impact factor of more than 70. She undertook one sub-task of the CAS Pioneer Project and participated in more than 10 national and Tianjin key projects.
Senior Engineer Qian Li is responsible for the management and service of the Structural Biology Sample Preparation module on the Structural Biology Platform. She is engaged in related work for more than ten years, proficient in technical services and method development related to protein preparation, protein crystals screening and optimization and protein structural analysis, providing full-process services for protein preparation or protein structural analysis for a lot of research groups and assisting in the preparation of hundreds of structural biology samples and the structural analysis of over 30 protein samples, participating in publication of multiple SCI articles in journals such as PLOS Pathologies and ISCIENCE. She hosted one National Natural Science Foundation of China and participated in multiple projects.
