NASB Chairman Leads Delegation to TIB to Advance Biotechnology Cooperation
On May 20, Uladzimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), led a delegation to Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences, to deepen bilateral cooperation in biotechnology.
The delegation was received by Dr. Zhang Xuecheng, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director-General of TIB, and Prof. Tian Chaoguang, Deputy Director-General of TIB. The exchange meeting was also attended by Aliaksandr Charviakou, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China; Aliaksandr Shepshaleu, Director of the Institute of Microbiology of NASB; Liang Jie, Vice President of CITIC Construction Co., Ltd.; the representative from the Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS; as well as relevant researchers and administrative staff from TIB.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Zhang Xuecheng extended a warm welcome and sincere greetings to the delegation. He noted that the two sides, brought together through CITIC Construction, have already built a solid foundation for cooperation. Biotechnology, he stressed, is a priority cooperation area designated by both CAS and NASB. He expressed the hope that the exchange would deepen bilateral collaboration and inject new momentum into biotechnological innovation and the high-quality development of the bio-industry in both China and Belarus.
Chairman Karanik highlighted that biotechnology is a priority direction for Belarus and highly commended TIB for its scientific and technological achievements in the field. He expressed a strong interest in strengthening cooperation with TIB to jointly promote the translation and application of frontier and advanced biotechnologies, thereby better contributing to the well-being of the two peoples.
Prof. Tian Chaoguang and Prof. Shepshaleu presented the overall status and research layouts of TIB and the Institute of Microbiology of NASB, respectively. Liang Jie introduced the Hi-tech Agro-industrial Full Cycle Complex Project in Belarus. Prof. Zheng Ping presented her team’s technological achievements in constructing high-yield amino acid-producing strains, while Prof. Wu Xin shared his work on the biomanufacturing of feed proteins and related fields.
During the meeting, the participants held in-depth discussions focused on technical issues and cooperation modalities concerning the implementation of the Hi-tech Agro-industrial Full Cycle Complex Project, and preliminarily reached cooperative intentions.
During the visit, the delegation also toured the High-Throughput Editing and Screening Platform and the Intelligent Biomanufacturing Platform at TIB.
