TIB-UM Joint Laboratory of Synthetic Biology for Traditional Chinese Medicine

Time:2024-12-17

Synthetic biology for Chinese medicine is an emerging and unique research field in China, representing a key strategic direction for the modernization and internationalization of Chinese medicine. To advance the inheritance and innovation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), TIB and the University of Macau (UM) are establishing a joint laboratory focused on synthetic biology for TCM. This collaboration leverages the strengths in disciplines, development needs and existing collaboration foundations of both institutions, aiming to create a platform for international scientific and technological exchange and collaboration in synthetic biology for TCM between Tianjin and Macao, extending its influence across China and even the Asia-Pacific region. Prof. LIU Tao from TIB and Prof. CHEN Xin from UM are the Co-Directors. Through this initiative, the laboratory will drive the development and utilization of modern TCM resources, advance biosynthesis technology for medicinal plant components, and promote the industrialization of natural products. By doing so, it seeks to secure a leading position in the innovation and technological advancement of Chinese medicine resources, ultimately contributing to the high-quality development of TCM industry.
