Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) is a high-level intergovernmental organization with 27 member states. Since its establishment in 1994, COMSATS has built a fruitful network of international science and technology cooperation. On April 14, 2021, the COMSATS Joint Center for Industrial Biotechnology (CCIB) was jointly established by TIB and COMSATS to build an open and shared collaborative platform among the member countries. Prof. SUN Jibin is appointed as the founding director. Under the financial support of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, CAS and Tianjin local government, focusing on the sustainable development of member states, CCIB has conducted a series of activities including joint R&D, talent cultivation, technology demonstration, etc. in an innovated cooperative mechanism. Based on related progress, CCIB was selected as the Good Practice in South-South Cooperation & Triangular Cooperation by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and the Enhancing Scientific Research Capacities Exhibition in the first Belt and Road Conference on the Science and Technology Exchange. It is becoming an important platform for promoting South-South S&T Cooperation in the field of biotechnology.
