The C1 Metabolism and Bioconversion Laboratory was established in 2023, led by Principal Investigator Dr. WANG Yu. The team focuses on the microbial metabolism and bioconversion of methanol and other C1 compounds. They work with both natural and synthetic methylotrophic microorganisms to develop advanced synthetic biology enabling technologies, including efficient genome editing and precise multi-gene expression regulation systems based on CRISPR and other tools. The team aims to elucidate the genetic and regulatory mechanisms of microbial C1 compound metabolism, redesign metabolic networks and product synthesis pathways, and create cell factories capable of efficiently converting methanol and other C1 feedstocks into bio-based material monomers, amino acids, and single-cell proteins. This research provides fundamental innovation and technological support for substituting C1 feedstocks in biomanufacturing and enabling the sustainable supply of bio-based products.
